Echoes of Vienna

A World-Class Summer Music Experience in the Heart of Europe

About the Echoes of Vienna music program

Every August, young musicians from around the world come to Vienna — the global capital of classical music — for a transformative, four-week program blending elite musical training with cultural immersion.

Participants receive daily individual and orchestral instruction from distinguished faculty at the Musikakademie Währing, some of whom also teach at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. The program culminates in a public concert and a certificate signed by all partnering institutions.

Highlights include:

  • Personalized music instruction & ensemble training

  • Performance anxiety coaching & basic instrument maintenance

  • Private practice rooms & weekday language classes

  • Weekend trip to Salzburg, local tours, and evening group activities

  • Family invitations to the final concert and optional travel support

Admission is selective and based on a video audition and detailed application.
If you’re ready to elevate your talent in one of the world’s most inspiring musical cities, this is your stage.

Arrival and Stay:

To participate in our program, you must have proficiency in a musical instrument and be at least 12 years old. Since you will prepare a performance with other musicians, we need to assess whether your participation can contribute to the program’s success. In collaboration with renowned Austrian musicians and based on an application video showcasing your skills, we will determine your suitability for the program. We also require proof of your language proficiency to place you in the appropriate language class.

As part of the admission process, it’s essential to define your current level of musicality and instrumental skills. After reviewing the criteria mentioned above, you will take part in a virtual preparation course to get your first introduction to Austrian culture and prepare for your journey.

Once accepted into the program, you will attend virtual workshops that provide cultural insight and practical preparation for your stay abroad. You’ll be accompanied by an experienced coordinator who will meet you at the airport in your capital city and travel with you to Vienna. Upon arrival, local coordinators will take you to your accommodation, where a private room will be ready for you. You will stay there with other participants for the duration of the program. Coordinators will always be present and available for any kind of support.

You will be provided with balanced meals throughout the program, and you can inform us in advance about any dietary restrictions or allergies, which we will, of course, accommodate.

Courses and Activities:

During the week, you’ll attend music classes in the mornings, which will include both solo and ensemble sessions with other participants and local musicians. Echoes of Vienna also offers useful courses for managing performance anxiety and a workshop where you’ll learn how to build and repair your own instrument.

Additionally, you will participate in a language course in the language you chose beforehand. After lunch, you’ll have practice time: several hours daily in a private rehearsal room to work on your instrument and refine your musical skills.

Outside of the formal lessons, you’ll have daily free time to explore Vienna and experience Austrian culture.

Final Concert:

We want you to take away a meaningful sense of achievement from our program. Together with the local ensemble and other participants, you’ll prepare a performance during the course, which will be presented to a Viennese audience on the final weekend.

Family members you’d like to have in the audience are warmly invited to come to Vienna for the final concert. Echoes of Vienna will provide them with a concert ticket and a free day tour of the city.

After the concert, you will receive a certificate of participation for completing our course and performing live. This certificate will be signed by the Währing Music Academy, the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, and the conservatory.

After the Trip:

Once you’ve completed the program, you’ll always be welcome in Vienna. If you decide to move to Vienna later in your career to study or train, we’ll gladly support you with the organization, university registration, and apartment search so that you can focus entirely on your music.

We’ll stay in touch! Even after finishing Echoes of Vienna, you can contact us at any time if you need anything or have questions.
